The First Silver Bay Wedding, 1922

“Katherine C. Ohlandt of Brooklyn and Louis C. Beissig, Y.M.C.A. Secretary at Fort Jay, New York City, were the principals in the first wedding ever held at Silver Bay, N.Y. … The ceremony was performed after an engagement of two days’ duration, the evening of Aug. 1, in the Helen Hughes Memorial Chapel, recently completed and dedicated in honor of the services to humanity of Helen Hughes, daughter of the present Secretary of State.  Dr. W.J. Hutchins, President of Berea College, Kentucky, officiated. The couple are spending their honeymoon at Silver Bay.”
